I am a native Arkansan and have lived in Arkansas all my life. I was born and raised in a little place in southwest Arkansas named Whelen Springs. I went to a little two-room school until I was in the 4th grade. Between the 4th and 11th grade, I attended schools in Hope, Gurdon, and Arkadelphia. In February of 1965, my family moved to DeWitt where I graduated from high school in 1966. I also got married in 1966 to Johnny M. Purdy, Sr. We have three children and seven grandchildren. When my youngest child was in the 10th grade, I decided to go to back to school. I graduated summa cum laude from the University of Arkansas at Monticello in May, 1992 with a major in math and a minor in physics. I later acquired a minor in chemistry. I taught physics and chemistry at Dumas High School for four years, and then came to DeWitt. I started working toward my master's degree in math education in 1997 and completed it in 1999. |
