The mailing of the Apples of Gold newsletter began in September 1995 by a few home schooling families who saw a need in the northland community for a way in which home schoolers could connect with one another and keep informed. Most subscribers live in Douglas County, Wisconsin and St. Louis County, Minnesota, but there are a few families outside this immediate region that have taken an interest in the newsletter as well. Apples of Gold is published bi-monthly from a Christian world view.
We encourage frequent contributions by others. Anyone is encouraged to send in articles, testimonies, book reviews, teaching tips, announcements, or other words of encouragement that might be a benefit to home schooling families. There is a special page just for kids, Young Ambassadors, and we ask that kids send in anything that they'd like to contribute and see in print. We do reserve the right to edit and select submissions. As long as room is available, we are open to publishing want/for sale ads, or ads for services (such as a family-run cottage industry). Kids are welcome to take advantage of this as well. (Deadlines for submissions into our mailed newsletter are listed on the front page of the newsletter.)
We do not charge a subscription to be on the mailing list, but instead ask that subscribers send a donation if possible, in any amount they can afford. It costs about $4.00 in postage per year per family. We are not a "group" or "committee," just home schooling folk like yourselves with no other funding. We are grateful that the Open Bible Church in Bennett, Wisconsin has provided their copier for us to use, and that a couple with a heart for home schoolers has donated the paper and actual copying "muscle" to our endeavor.
If you are a new home schooler, you may be interested to know that there have been families in the home schooling community who have volunteered to serve as mentors or helpers for those with questions about home schooling. Of course, you can e-mail us at Apples of Gold to ask a question or request our newsletter mailed to your door. We are willing to help in any way we can.
We heartily hope that you enjoy the newsletter and have a wonderful home schooling experience!!
Sincerely,
Naomi Musch and Celeste Figueroa
