        "Annie"

History

We are located in far northern Wisconsin.  We are five miles from Lake Superior near the boundary of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.  We are 100 miles east of Duluth, MN, 12 miles west of Ironwood, MI and 4 and a half hours north of Madison, WI.  We have 30 acres of wooded land and 10 acres of field.  We have some of the best grouse hunting 150 yards from our house on our land.  We have been around Brittanys for over thirty years in part due to our family members owning them.  We actually raised our own Brittanys since 1999.

Our kennel is named after our first Brittany, Massoglia’s Princess Anna Beatrice Rose.  She developed into a fine pointing dog and we thoroughly enjoyed owning her.  Then on
September 4, 2001 tragedy struck.

Annie was hit by a pickup truck in front of our house.  She was with the boys at our neighbor’s house playing.  She followed the boys on the way home, luckily the boys made it across the road, but Annie did not.  The driver of the pickup was driving 50 mph in a 15-mph zone.  We were devastated.  We knew she had died instantly.  We buried her in our training field and marked her grave with a painted rock and many tears and three fired 12 gauge shells to signify what a great hunter and friend she had turned out to be.

We called the owner of Annie's sire to see if the sire had sired any more litters, sure enough his dog had bred Annie’s dam's sister.  We wanted a female but all they had were two males.  We looked at the two anyway and were ready to leave the place when this one male gave us the look and he looked so much like Annie that we decided to take him.

Enter Massoglia’s Prince Archibald on September 8, 2001, Archie for short.  Archie got us through the long winter; he provided needed therapy for us and helped filled the huge void left by Annie.  Archie turned out to be an excellent hunter and now has a JH title and six points in the show ring.  Archie also has multiple BOB (Best of Breed) wins.

Enter Massoglia’s Princess Kathryn Rose on May 31, 2002, Katie for short.  Katie had a pedigree filled with field champions and one dual champion.  Some notable dogs are FC Highbrow’s Red, AFC Gun Runner’s Far Out, FC Gun Runner’s Heavy Duty, and DC Jacques of Connie.  We had two girls to pick from, Katie and her sister already named Emma.  The breeder wanted to keep Emma, but gave us the pick of the two.  We decided to take Katie after a very hard decision, Emma was a fine puppy also.  So both parties were happy.

Our kennel plans started to take shape.  We found a location next to our garage.  We also found out that we could possibly go into the boarding as well as the breeding aspect due to the lack of boarding kennels around our area.    We have a 10-run kennel with heated indoor and outdoor runs and a 3000 square foot exercise area.  There is a grooming/bath area in the kennel along with hot water and in-floor “hyponix” heating system.

Enter Massoglia’s Princess Emma Rose on December 8, 2002.  Katie’s breeder needed to place Emma, so she immediately thought of us.  Our breeder was planning to go out of town during the holidays, so we offered to baby sit Emma.  After we ended our conversation, the phone rang again and it was the breeder.  She offered us to keep Emma, provided she would fit in, and we would become her full owners. She has fit well in the family and our two boys, Bobby (15) and Tate (10), just love her.  She has provided us with more joy than one would ever know.

Our goal of our Brittany program was to have a dual purpose dog.  Our lines were filled with field lines, but we felt we needed to conform to the standards more, so we searched for a show quality puppy bitch with a pedigree of dual champions or at least hunt tested titled dogs, to be our foundation bitch.

Enter CH Rao's Play Misty for Anna B. Rose.  She came from Rao Farms, located in Richfield, WI, owned by Becky Rao and managed by Andrea Lane. Andrea was a co-founder of Jordean Brittanys. Jordean Brittanys was the home of the famous Am. Can. CH Jordean All Kiddin' Aside JH, a.k.a. Ollie and also two time National Specialty Show Champion CH Jordean Your Wildest Dreams, a.k.a. Brad.  Brad is Misty's father.  We were fortunate and honored to receive a puppy from them. Misty has the attitude in the ring and the birdiness that we look for in a Brittany.  We brought Misty to Archie's hunt test when she was five months old and she pointed four quail when she was going for a walk with Debbie.  Misty made the final cut in the 6-9 month puppy bitch sweepstakes at the 2004 American Brittany Club National Specialty and just missed fourth place. This year (2006), Misty placed an unofficial fifth in "Open Bitch".  Misty just came home with two major wins at the Cleveland, OH "Christmas Cluster" on December 16, and 17, 2006.  Misty finished her CH in St. Paul, MN.  A huge "Thank You" goes to Andrea Lane and Becky Rao.  We will continue to develop the "Anna B Rose" line of Brittanys.

We bred Emma to Becky and Andrea’s CH Klear-ly Rao’s Tonight Show, a.k.a. Carson.  We were blessed with ten puppies, six girls and four boys.  They all have nice homes with great pet owners.  Two of the puppies are excelling in competition.  Abby a.k.a. AB Rose Princess Abigail, owned by Randy Schmidt of Carlton, Minnesota, has already earned points towards her Field Championship with a win in Open Puppy at the West Texas Brittany Field Trial.  Abby is now a finished Champion  just three weekends of shows, she finished with a  five point major defeating eighteen other girls.  She finished with style and Grace. The other puppy is the one we kept, Anna B Rose Grace Under Pressure a.k.a. Gracie.   Gracie is also a finished show champion. She also qualified for the 2007 & 2008 Eukanuba Tournament of Champions.  She had a litter of six puppies.   She is stylish in the ring and is a great hunter with a very staunch point and has the endurance to run all day.  Gracie and Abby are ranked in the top 100 Brittanys for 2007 and are amongst the top 32 females for 2007.

Enter Anna B Rose Heartbreaker, or Peppermint Pattie.  We kept Pattie from Gracie's litter.  She is a stylish little girl and has already pointed her first pheasant while running around with grandma Emma.  We hope Pattie can carry the torch that our other Brittanys have carried so proudly.

We also would wish to give a big thank you to our mentors, Kathy and Jerry Hogan of Rainbow Ridge Brittanys, who have spent countless hours on the phone with us answering all of our "stupid" questions and who also shown Misty for us and kept our chins up.  We also want to thank Millie and Tom Frame of Jozan Brittanys who did the same as the Hogans and shared their home with us and fed us which in itself is a huge task.  Millie is always there for us and we appreciate that.  We also want to thank Jackie and Eric Swanson DVM of Dr. Jac's Brittanys, who provided support and emergency veterinarian assistance when we needed it.  We also want to thank Diane Hedstrom of Bantam Brittanys, who helped us in the show ring and helped us with questions and concerns.  We also wish to thank those that we forgot to mention, without your help and support it would be impossible for us to fulfill our dreams of becoming reputable breeders.  We also want to mention friends of ours who are in other breeds that gave us help and assistance, Pat Ottaway of Echoridge Rhodesian Ridgebacks, Sue Mahonen of Suci's GSP's, Karen Bach of Paw Prints Chinese Cresteds, Curt and Bonnie Brandon of Fancy Brittanys, and Jodi Kistner of Kistners Smooth Standard Dachshunds.
