The North American Squirrel Association was formed to assist the physically challenged and elderly enjoy hunting and fishing opportunities and recreational activities. Their mission is to support and aid in the events sponsored by the Wisconsin and Minnesota Departments of Natural Resources. Examples of such events are the early disabled white tail deer hunts and duck hunts.
They also provide a pontoon boat and motor for the physically challenged. The boat is kept on Lake Onalaska near Schafer's Boat Livery on Brice Prairie. They are building two physically challenged fishing piers for the summer of 2005. Other events include providing disabled downhill ski equipment at Mt. La Crosse that can be used for free and providing free ski lessons for children with a disability. Upcoming fund raiser information is on their website.
North Country Independent Living of Wisconsin empowers people with disabilities. The mission is broad based, allowing North Country Independent Living to respond to a variety of needs. The philosophy promotes people with disabilities being active participants in daily living and being given the same opportunities and choices as others. This philosophy is promoted through consumer choice and control.
They provide an array of services . Of particular interest to sportsman with disabilities might be their adaptive loan closet. They have over 400 items that consumers can try for free for 2 weeks, to see if it works for them. They also help people find funding or loans to pay for equipment. They are not vendors but are committed to help people access technology. They have had items such as crossbows, electric reels, adaptive skiing equipment, etc.

Sportsmen Assisting the Nation's Disabled Sportsmen: SANDS is a grassroots program made available through the Nebraska Game and Parks web site. The SANDS program was created to help men and women with disabilities by providing a means for them to meet able-bodied outdoors men and women who volunteer their time and abilities by lend a helping hand.
Its a great resource for current target shooters, archers, hunters and anglers. Here you can learn how to share your favorite activity with friends or family members who have never had an opportunity to try traditional outdoor sports.
Sunrise prides itself on working harmoniously with other organizations to help those with physical challenges - with competition and without ego, to provide services to those disabled people of all ages get outdoors. If you are a physically challenged archer looking for a unique bowhunting adventure, the United Foundation For Disabled Archers (UFFDA) has the opportunity you have been searching for. Each year UFFDA sponsors bowhunts at various locations across America.
This is a new program created to support our "warriors" with recreational activities in the outdoors. With the help of sportsman around the country we will create a site to coordinate outdoor activities between the sportsmen and men and women of the armed forces. We will also work with sponsors to host various group activities for personnel of the Warrior Transition Units across the United States. We owe them no less than the best that we can do.
