The Eagle

Charles "Ace" Grissom has carved another "one of a kind masterpiece." His art is well known in the Pacific Northwest as well as Alaska. This amazing piece of art consisted of four long years of hard work. This carving is beautifully designed and detailed into a spectacular Golden Eagle set atop a round table with the legs of the table designed to look like feathered eagle claws.
The tree that this awesome eagle was carved from was a Black Walnut that was well over 100 years old. The weight of this great tree was between five and six thousand pounds. It took over four years to complete this beautiful piece of work. Now that the eagle is done it weighs 180 lbs. and stands 6'5" tall including the table it sits on. The table is made of solid oak it also is handcarved.
We believe it is the largest free-standing eagle in the world carved from a single piece of wood. You are probably wondering what inspired Charles to carve this, so here's the story

It all started one day when he found out that a casino had a big bear carved out of wood and they wanted a Golden Eagle to go in there too. So hearing this, being a carver, he decided to carve the eagle not knowing what he was getting into.
The tree that he was to carve the eagle from was green at the time. This created alot of problems due to drying and cracking, which was stopped by using sealers and plastic bags to seal in the moisture to keep it from cracking while it was being carved, this went on for four years. But finally the task was over. I quote him "I want to see the eagle go to a place where it can be appreciated and enjoyed as much as I've enjoyed carving it".

I am the grandaughter of Charles and I have seen the log before and after and it is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. Charles would like to share the eagle with all his friends. I would like to congratulate Charles for his achievement in carving this beautiful piece of art and not only has he put beauty into the eagle he has proved he can accomplish anything he puts his mind to.
