Step 1. Talk with your Pastor, Mentors and other Advisors.
Your Pastor is in the driver's seat as to when and if he may be willing to recommend you as a potential church planter.
Potential planters are usually full of it! Wanting to do it "my way."
This can be a gift and a curse so your maturity will need to be in place for a successful time of training prior to your release to plant.
If your Pastor is willing to recommend you, we would like to have you get a pre-assessment. This will show us where you are weak and were you are strong. The pre-assessment is a wonderful tool for you and your pastor to make a training plan for you.
Step 2. Fill out the forms.
- Have your Pastor fill out a "Recommendation Form"
- You will fill out an "Application Form". If you are married we would like your spouse to fill out a separate copy of the application.
- Both forms are available on the www.vineyardusa.org web site.
Step 3. Meet with an assessment team
- You will be asked to fill out a pre-assessment questionnaire prior to meeting with the assessment team.
- If married, both spouse need to be present for the assessment.
- You may be asked to travel to the location of the assessment team or they may come to you. Either way you will need to set aside at least 6 hours for the assessment.
- The assessment is not a job interview not is it a "pass" or "fail" test.
- The assessment will help you sharpen your understanding of what God is calling you to, measure your strengths and weakness and continue to shape your strategy for planting.
- The assessment will be reviewed with you, your sending pastor, and the pastor assigned to coach you while planting. This review will determine what you will need to complete in your preparation to plant before you are released.
Step 4. Continue training
- Any preparation or other training will be done at this time. You may still be 6 months to a year from planting at this point.
- With the permission of your sending pastor this is a good time for you to began contact with APC for the area you will be planting.
- The APC may have valuable input for you about the area you are planning to plant and there is still plenty of time to adjust if needed.
Step 5. Write your two-year plan.
- At this time you may be only three to six months out from being released to plant.
- Your Coach and sending pastor can help you with this process there are also sample plans on the Vineyard web site. (address above)
- Also attend the workshop at this conference, "Writing your Two-Year Plan"
Step 6. Get Official Release Form Signed.
- Ok it is time to say good bye to your current church and hello to the area you intend to plant.
- You will need six signatures on your release form.
First the CPC - then Your sending Pastor - then Your Coach
-then the APC of the area your going to - then the RO of the area you will be going to
-then the National Director.
- Your CPC will start the process of getting signatures, but you will need to follow trough on seeing it completed and sending it to the National Director. The National Director will then send you a Packet and $2,500 which is to be used for your moving and/or churchplanting expenses. Your sending church is expected to match this.
Step 7. Plant the church with the support of your coach
- Our system is designed to provide you ongoing support as you plant. We are not a sink or swim movement in church planting. We want to see a proactive coach, not one that only says "call me if you need help."
- Those who coach have years of experience to offer you. They will proactively be available to you.
- Good coaches will ask you the right questions to help you figure out how to plant the church the way God is calling you to.
- Good coaches will help learn to deal with success as well as disappointment.
- Your coach is there to help you!
Expectations Of Churchplanters once Released
- Be apart of your APC meetings
- Contribute 3% the Association of Vineyard Churches
- Have special "Inservice Meetings" with your Coach, Spending Pastor, and APC every 6 months for the first 2 years.
- If you have more than 50 people at 2 years, then do a Natural Church Development Survey
- After 2 years, be open to have people come help you over hurdles if needed.
