We got into boating in
2002,
when we bought a 16' Smoker Craft for crabbing in Birch Bay. I kept
wanting to go
from Birch Bay to Patos Island and do some boat camping.
Patty said I was crazy, it's too far, the boat is too small,
it's too rough, whatever. One day in November 2002, she said
"OK, let's go." We had a wonderful day at Active Cove on
Patos Island, and as we were leaving we saw a salty-looking boat at a
mooring buoy, so we cruised over to it. Patty said "I would overnight
on that boat." It was, of course, a C-Dory.
There was never a thought of another kind of boat. I discovered a
C-Dory user group on the web, and posted "I don't know when, I don't
know how, but one day we will have a C-Dory!" We went to the 2003
Seattle Boat Show, and of course headed right for the C-Dory
display. Patty sat at the dinetter, stood at the galley, lay
down
on the vee-berth. Finally, she said "Well, let's just go over and see
what the deal is..." I knew our fate was sealed, we would
have our own C-Dory! Our CD22 was powered by twin Honda BF40s and was
very economical. We did lots of great cruising on the CD22
Daydream
in the San Juans.
We loved the CD22 Daydream, and didn't know
we needed a CD25 until we went to the 2005 Seattle Boat Show and Patty
uttered the immortal words "Well, lets just go over and see
what the deal is..." Once again, our fate was sealed! We sold
the CD22 Daydream to Kaz and Mart, and had a de-naming and
re-christening ceremony at Cornet Bay near Deception Pass, and later
delivered the boat to them at Shilshole.
Our 2005
C-Dory
25' Cruiser
is also named Daydream with
a Honda BF150 main and BF15 kicker. In the summer, we love
cruising the San Juans and Gulf Islands, and in the winter we get our
boating fix by overnighters at Andrews Bay on Lake Washington.
We had a great eight
day trip to Desolation Sound, B.C., in September 2005.
Desolation Sound is a wonderful
place, with many provincial marine parks and spectacular scenery.
In
June 2006, I
cruised from Blaine, Washington, to Ketchikan, Alaska. Patty flew in to
Ketchikan, and we cruised to Meyers Chuck, Behm Canal and Misty Fjords
National Monument, circumnavigating Revillagigedo Island. Our
friend David McKibben owns a substantially identical C-Dory, and we
cruised together. The home page image is an aerial shot of
Anna Leigh (in
front) and Daydream running near Allison
Harbor, B.C., that appeared in Motorboating Magazine.
This year we cruised a week in the Gulf Islands and two weeks
on Lake Powell in Utah. Lake Powell is awesome, and we plan to go back
next year. |
