We had another Lhasa Apso named
Oscar, who was
really our puppy love. Oscar got hit by a car the morning I
was
leaving for Alaska, and there is still a big empty spot in our hearts
for that dog. We decided not to deprive ourselves of the joy,
so
we got another Lhasa.
Baxter is two years old now. He is really
cute and affectionate, which is a good thing, because he is dumb as a
post. I later read in a breed book that Lhasas are low in intelligence,
slow to learn commands and willful. Oh, well. He's
not
Oscar but he is loveable in his own way.
He is our boat
dog! He goes with us everywhere, so we need to be sure we
have a
place to land him to take care of business. He loves the dinghy. As
soon as the dinghy comes off the roof, he gets on the swim step and
jumps in. At Upper Priest Lake, Idaho, he jumped in and the
dinghy drifted out. He seemed happy as a clam to just sit
there.
We eventually brought him back to the boat!
Baxter takes me for
a two mile walk at 5:30 a.m. every morning, which keeps us both in
shape. He is overjoyed to see me when I come home from work, he does
backflips when I walk in. Like they say, I wish I was half the man my
dog thinks I am. All in all, I'm glad we got him.
