About Me
I started many years ago with a single pair of canaries. One pair went to two pair then three pair until I had numerous pairs. I raised and showed Hartz Mountain and Belgian Waterslagers. As my children got older they wanted something they could handle so I bought then a hand fed cockatiel. As our children got older and got involved in school activities I felt sorry for their pets and thought they would be happier if they had a mate. I sold a lot of my canaries to make room for a new adventure with raising cockatiels. Little did I know how prolific cockatiels can be. It was here that I learned the importance of about hand feeding and providing individual one on one attention.
Five years later a very dear friend told me about a small parrot, the Poicephalus. I never thought I'd own a parrot because of the noise factor. I did a lot of reading and talking with breeders to discover that the a Poicephalus, Senegal's, Meyer's and Jardine's are all a quiet parrot. I bought my first Senegal and so began my life with parrots. I started attending parrot seminars to continue my education is proper care and management (bird husbandry) of my birds.
Three or four years went by and our son kept talking about a friend of his that had an African Grey. He continued to tell me more and ,more about how smart his friends bird was, talking and tricks. I learned a friend of mine had two African Greys so I went over to see for myself. I was amazed at how beautiful they were. I have to admit I was also intimidated at their size. They are much larger than the Senegal's, Meyer's and Jardine's I was so use to handling at home. I started reading and talking with people and breeders about African Greys and the difference between the Congo Grey and the Timneh Grey. Two years later I bought my first pair of Congo's.
My first clutch of Grey babies were day ones. The first baby they destroyed and I ended up pulling the second and third egg and watched them hatch. This began my life with Congo African Grey. Pair by pair I ended up selling the smaller parrots to provide larger cages and better care for my Greys.
I have been raising Greys for over 7 years now. I did have a couple of pairs of the Timneh Greys. My favorite is the Congo. I don't have a large flock which is my choice. Our children are grown now so I spend most of my time caring for my flock. For several years I was MAP Certified.
