SANTA and COMPANY in WOOD

Fine Wood Carving and Woodturning

The Frankes are Michigan wood carvers and turners. Following are some examples of their work. You may contact Bette bfranke@centurytel.net to inquire about purchasing any of their works.

About the artists

Wolfgang and Bette Franke started woodworking about fifteen years ago. First with some of the 'flat, painted' wood creations, deciding that though "we loved wood, we just were not inspired by this type of work."
Wolfgang retired in 1994, and now there is more time to create fine wood carvings and turnings. Wolfgang's woodworking tool of choice is the wood lathe. He turns beautiful wooden bowls and vases. Many of his most recent pieces have been segmented turnings. Wolfgang also does relief carved pictures.
Bette turns mostly production pieces. These include writing instruments (Cross style pens and pencils, Parker style pens, Roller Ball pens, Fountain pens) and Letter Openers, Perfume Applicators, Perfume bottles, Key Fobs, Bottle Stoppers, Small Boxes, some Jewelry. These are turned of over 50 different woods, including Diamond Wood. (Diamondwood is wood and resin that is manufactured under heat and pressure to produce a very hard and beautiful material for pens.
Bette carves characters: Santas, Golfers, Hunters, Fisherman, Cowboys, etc. And realistic Indian pieces.
Wolfgang also enjoys golfing. And if a volley ball game is in progress you are sure to see him in the middle of it!
Bette enjoys carving, cooking, reading, painting and playing on the computer (chatting and surfing the net). Oh, and spending time with the grandkids.
